On September 9th 2002, Benjamin Netanyahu will be arriving in Montreal to give a speech at Concordia University. The Montreal Coalition for Peace urges all the citizens of Montreal to join us in a peaceful demonstration to send a message that Benjamin Netanyahu's opposition to the most basic of Palestinian rights is not welcome.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the former Prime Minister of Israel and most recently one of the most ardent speakers for the continuation of the violation of Palestinian human rights. He has repeatedly spoken against the establishment of a Palestinian state, has encouraged the use of military force against defenseless Palestinian and has spoken publicly for ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population.
This opportunity should excite our sense of morality and responsibility. Berkeley University students this year were able to prevent Netanyahu from spreading his words of hatred by picketing outside his venue peacefully. It is our duty to make it clear that Netanyahu and his racist policies are not welcome.
The Montreal Coalition for Peace calls for a demonstration to protest Benjamin Netanyahu's lecture, on September the 9th, 2002 at Concordia University.
Details: Reason: Protest Benjamin Netanyahu's presence at Concordia University. Location: Concordia University 1455 de Maissoneuve West. Date: September 9th, 10:30 am.
Who is Benjamin Netanyahu?
In May of 2002, at a conference of the right wing Likud Party now led by Ariel Sharon, former party leader Benjamin Netanyahu successfully urged members to pass a resolution rejecting the concept of an independent Palestinian state. Netanyahu stated: "This must be clear there will not be a Palestinian state west of the Jordan river".
In April, Netanyahu argued that there could be no political negotiations with the PLO and that current Israeli military policy is "restrained".
