CSU executive EXCLUDES Euphrates (a Montreal hip-hop band) PDF Print E-mail
SPHR News - SPHR Chapters News

The Concordia Student Union (CSU) executive has EXCLUDED an acclaimed Montreal Hip-Hop band, Euphrates.

The CSU executive EXCLUDED the band for their Orientation concert claiming that the artists were anti-Semitic for supporting of Palestinian human rights. They also attacked Euphrates for performing at charity events for Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR).

The defamatory comments were made by an active member of Hillel-Concordia, Steven Rosenshein, who now occupies the position of VP Communications for the CSU. Hillel is known for its extreme anti-Palestinian positions and support of human rights violations in Occupied Palestine.

Euphrates is known for their latest album ?Stereotypes Incorporated? which brings attention to the stereotypes employed against Iraqis, Arabs and Muslims.

?This is ironic because the CSU?s ban is a manifestation of what the artists talk about in their music and title of the album,? said Laith Marouf External Coordinator at SPHR-national, ?An Iraqi Canadian was targeted, because he fit the stereotype of the ?bad? Arab.?

The concert was scheduled for Thursday, September 15th at 7.30pm on the corner of Mackay and Maisonneuve W.

SPHR calls on all decent people who are against this outrageous ban to come to the concert with their kuffiyehs, Iraqi and Palestinian flags to show their support for socially conscious music. Supporters will be converging on the corner of Mackay and Maisonneuve W. at 7pm to show their solidarity with Euphrates.
