This Saturday, Palestinian and Canadian human rights activists will protest against the continuing Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. For 35 years the Israeli government has carried out a program of deprivation, dispossession and violence against the Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories with a view to national expansion and "transfer" (ethnic cleansing) of the indigenous population. This systematic abuse of the human and national rights of the Palestinian people, as affirmed in numerous United Nations resolutions, international humanitarian law, and the international consensus, must end. In the words of Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations:

"To the Israelis I say: You have the right to live in peace and security within secure internationally recognized borders. But you must end the illegal occupation. More urgently you must stop the bombing of civilian areas, the assassinations, the unnecessary use of lethal force, the demolitions and the daily humiliation of ordinary Palestinians."
