{mosimage}December 6 is a Canada wide Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Please take the time to remember those that were involved in the horrific event on December 6, 1989 in Montreal and also the many women who have experienced violence and/or sexual assault.
The Montreal Massacre
On Wednesday, December 6th 1989, 25-year-old Marc Lepine began a shooting spree at the University of Montreal's School of Engineering Building at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. He murdered 14 women and injured 13 others, nine of whom were women. Before killing himself, he left an explanatory note on his body, containing an anti-feminist message and a list of 14 women whom he particularly despised. The 14 women he murdered have become tragic representatives of the injustice against women.
As a result of the tragic event, women's groups across Canada organized marches and memorials. In 1991, the Canadian government declared December 6th National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Thank you for remembering.
