Event : Lecture by Avichay Sharon
Time: Tuesday Mar 17, 2009 ( 7:30pm – 10pm)
Location: 855 Sherbrooke St.W ( Leacock Bld - Room 232) McGill University
Backgorund: Avichay Sharon has a unique perspective on the situation in the Middle East. When the second Palestinian Intifada broke out in 2000, Sharon had just joined the Israeli Army. Serving for the next three years as a combat soldier in the "Egoz" unit, he was involved in operations throughout the West Bank and Gaza, doing search-and-arrests and house invasions.
After his service, he co-founded "Breaking the Silence," an organization of veteran Israeli soldiers which publicizes testimonies of soldiers. They want Israel to confront the truth about its policies.
Sharon was born in Israel in 1981 to a modern Orthodox religious family and grew up in Tel-Aviv and New York. He has also been involved with Combatants for Peace, Children of Abraham, and Taayush. He currently lives in Jerusalem and studies Talmud and Philosophy at Hebrew University.
