SPHR, in solidarity with the courageous people of Palestine, would like to cordially invite you to a fund raising concert, filled with the most inspiring and popular Palestinian and Middle Eastern music, in order to help improve the quality of medical care that Gaza so direly needs. All funds will be donated to the Gaza Emergency Fund program, administered by Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP). Medical Aid for Palestine is a group dedicated to alleviating the hardships of the Palestinian people and ensuring they receive sufficient medical aid. While Israel pounded Gaza with their most sophisticated weapons, including weapons banned under International Law , the Palestinian civilians stood firm, withstanding the vicious onslaught in a fight for survival. Beginning January 2006, Israel had placed the Gaza strip under the most unethical siege, effectively punishing the entire civilian population of Gaza for practicing their democratic rights. Israel has blocked the entry of basic food stuff and medical supplies, essential for the daily lives of civilians. Gazans were also deprived from water and electricity resources. In December 2008, Israel started a systematic war destroying the civilian infrastructure in the Gaza strip, pounding civilians with their high tech weaponary including illegal arms such as white phosphorus. While Israel mounted the offensive against an already besieged population, they ensured no civilians were able to get out in order to receive medical aid, with reports of children left stranded by the IDF next to their mothers corpses, too weak to even move. Despite all this, the Palestinian civilians stood firm for survival. Today, Gaza resides under a severe blockage that violates the basic human rights of survival. |
