'Here - we have a past'
A past that will not be forgotten. A history of displacement, exile, pain and resistance. The assault on our existence, because it was created. A state that unites worldwide Jewry, in a place, made on our ancestral space.
Here we have - 'A present and a future'
that embraces song, dance, literature, art and poetry as a means of remembrance and cultural resistance. We will always remember,
'Our roots are entrenched Deep in the earth. Like twenty impossibles We shall remain.'
Please join us for an evening to pay homage and to celebrate the cultural modes of resistance through which Palestinians have survived and maintained their identity in the face of immeasurable odds. The night will consist of resistance through: hip-hop, poetry, spoken word, traditional Arabic music, short films and live music.
Featuring Poetry and Music from:
Raya Hamdan- Local Palestinian poet, activist and artist who's poetry will hit you where it hurts.
Rafeef Ziadah- Toronto's famous Palestinian spoken word artist, activist and academic who's spoken word will set your politics straight.
Marc Tetrault- Local Montreal artist and activist who will kill you softly with his smooth acoustic reggae sounds.
Ecos de Porte Allegre-Local political salsa band that will make you shake yo' booty and think revolution at the same time.
Yassin- Member of local popular Montreal hip-hop band Euphrates who drops it like its hot with his intense rhymes.
Da Mental CRU- Spinning cool hip-hop tracks and Middle Eastern vibes on the ones and twos.
Also showing:
2 Short Films on Palestinian hip-hop as a form of resistance by Jackie Salloum.
Live footage showing a non-violent direct action against the Israeli Apartheid Wall in the West Bank village of Bil'in on the 20th July 2005 which will be presented by Sarita Ahooja, who was a participant.
Please join us as we remember that, despite twenty impossibles, 'we shall remain.'
